Terrestrial radio is no longer the dominant means of entering the field of sports broadcasting.
We believe the long-held assumption of radio as the only entry portal into the field of sports broadcasting is a paradigm that is no longer universally effective. The SBLC
operates under and trains its sports broadcasters
utilizing the new paradigm of emerging,
readily available and broadly accessible communication technologies, including the Internet, radio and television.
Pursuing a successful journey into the high-tech sports broadcasting field requires a re-examination of the traditional set of assumptions and rules. Advancements in communication technologies coupled with the multiple ways to access information has allowed sports broadcasters not only to think “outside the box”, but to also to successfully operate “outside the box."
Just as Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press in the 1440s was an agent of change, creating a new channel of communications that forever changed the way people viewed the world, the introduction of the personal computer and the Internet has impacted both personal and business environments, again changing the way information is distributed and accessed.
RLM Sports has embraced this change, allowing us to explore and develop innovative and more effective structures and methodologies in many areas of sports broadcasting, including the RLM Sports Learning Center.
In just a little over a decade, many game changers are forcing us to re-examine the ways and means of developing the skills necessary to become a sports broadcaster, including:
- An increase in the number of avid sports fans
- A growing demand for immediate communication, anytime, anywhere, by anyone
- The rapidly growing number and diversity of sporting events available for broadcast
- Portability, flexibility, simplicity, cost effectiveness, availability, versatility, and reliability of today’s broadcasting equipment
- An increase in the number and variety of media distribution outlets
- The availability of inexpensive mobile communication devices such as smart phone technology
- The rise and popularity of social media like Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter
- The development of the World Wide Web
